Dr. Eraldo Ribeiro

Associate Professor of Computer Science

Department of Computer Science · Florida Institute of Technology

I work at the intersection of computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, with a strong interest in data science. My research develops computational methods for learning and extracting structure from complex visual and temporal data, and applies them to challenging problems in science and engineering — from geometry and motion in images and video to bioacoustics, microscopy, environmental imaging, and the analysis of social and networked systems.

My research has been supported by NSF, ONR, NASA, and Embraer. See funded projects →

My research spans computer vision, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science, organized around five connected themes — with an emphasis on methods that work on real scientific and engineering data. A few directions:

Shape, Texture & Registration

3-D shape modeling, shape-from-X, non-rigid image registration, and texture classification and segmentation.

Motion & Activity Recognition

Recognizing human motion, actions, and human–object interactions in video, and tracking objects through occlusion.

Vision for Science

Deep learning applied to scientific imaging and sensing — pollen recognition, bioacoustic call classification, and coral-reef and underwater image analysis.

These connect into five themes — from geometry and motion to scientific and network data. Read the full research overview, or browse my publications.

Prospective students: I am looking for motivated PhD and MS students interested in computer vision and machine learning — feel free to reach out.
